.Preparation (Place, Mind, Samagri) Take a bath, wear clean clothes, and keep the mind calm. Place the Shiva Lingam on a clean altar or pan facing east or north; put a white cloth below if possible. Keep ready: water, milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar (for Panchamrit), flowers, bel leaves, incense, diya, camphor, fruits, and prasad.
.Sankalp (Intention) Light the diya and incense. Join hands and mentally state your purpose (health, peace, prosperity, removal of obstacles, etc.) while remembering Lord Shiva. You can say in simple English, “O Lord Shiva, I am doing Rudrabhishek for … (your wish). Please accept this worship.”
3. Ganesh Puja Offer a flower and a little rice to Lord Ganesha (even a small picture/idol is enough). Mentally request, “Please remove all obstacles from this puja”.
.Kalash Sthapana (if possible) Fill a small copper/silver/stainless-steel pot with clean water, place mango leaves and a coconut on top if available. Keep it near the Lingam; this represents holy waters and divine presence.
.Invocation of Lord Shiva Sprinkle a little water on the Lingam and altar. Offer a few flowers and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” slowly with devotion. In mind, invite Lord Shiva to reside in the Lingam and accept your worship.
.Main Abhishek (Sacred Bath) Now bathe the Lingam slowly, repeating “Om Namah Shivaya” or any Shiva mantra you know: Water – pour gently, symbolising purification and cooling energy. Milk – for nourishment and softness of heart. Curd – for prosperity and fertility. Honey – for sweetness in speech and relationships. Ghee – for health, strength, and divine light. Sugar / Panchamrit mix – for overall blessings and fulfilment. Water again – to rinse and complete the abhishek. If you do not have all items, even only clean water or water + milk is accepted when done with faith.
.Offerings after Abhishek Wipe the Lingam gently with a clean cloth if needed. Offer bel leaves, flowers, akshata (rice), sandal paste, and some bhasma where available. Keep fruits or sweets near the Lingam as naivedya (offering).Offerings after Abhishek Wipe the Lingam gently with a clean cloth if needed. Offer bel leaves, flowers, akshata (rice), sandal paste, and some bhasma where available.
.Mantra and Japa Sit quietly and chant “Om Namah Shivaya” 11, 21, or 108 times as per your capacity. If you know Shri Rudram or Mahamrityunjaya mantra, you can chant those as well; many texts recommend chanting Rudram while pouring each offering over the Lingam.
.Aarti and Prayer Perform aarti with camphor or a ghee lamp, moving it in a circular motion in front of the Lingam. Ring a bell if available and sing any simple Shiva aarti you know or just chant “Har Har Mahadev” with devotion
.Conclusion and Prasad Offer final pranam (prostration) to Lord Shiva and express gratitude for accepting your puja. Distribute the prasad and Panchamrit to everyone present, and you may later pour remaining kalash water at the base of a plant or tree as a sacred offering.
